STEPS TOWARDS IOT

Industrial automation grew leaps and bounds in the past few decades helping to improve production efficiency and operation improvements in various industries. Information systems and business applications also matured meanwhile helping organisations to have visibility and control.

There are many players in Automation and Enterprise IT space built proven solutions benefiting the industry with the advanced solutions. The most common challenges are open standards inter-operability. Every vendor ended up with proprietary architecture and standards, made interfacing expensive and less flexible.

Next challenge is to make IT systems to integrate with automation systems for MIS, MII, or M2E for improvements in planning and execution process across the operations. With many proprietary systems, challenges related to SCADA/Automation security success rate of M2E, MII is very less. Some of the Enterprise not even prepared to reach this level of integration.

With many proprietary standards, dependencies and discreet systems, without innovative solutions from automation industry vendors, enterprise customers will always find it difficult to solve this problem. This requires a paradigm shift among the present Automation vendors, to start working on open standards in integration, communication and control level. Quickly scale up to meet the level of maturity in IT systems, adopt open standards and move to integration standards like what SOA or Web services redefined the enterprise integration architecture.

If All Automation vendors make systems open up, unify the standards, make inter-operability as a major agenda, would unlock major opportunity to entire industry. This would help Enterprise Customers to seamlessly integrate with enterprise systems; get benefit from Real time data, analytics take their first step towards IOT, and Big data.
