IBM Pulse 2014 – The Premier Cloud Conference is roaring at Las Vegas! More than 11000 attendees from all corners of the globe have joined to hear from top industry thought leaders delivering the knowledge to succeed in the Information and Technology world. Pulse 2014 has already brought forth some great insights and networking opportunities for attendees interested in the developments of Cloud, Software Defined Environments (SDE), Open Computing and more. David Pogue, a former personal-technology columnist for The New York Times is Pulse 2014 emcee. We’re seeing David adding lot of excitement at the conference with his sharp wit and tech-savvy humor.
Software Defined Environments and Open technologies are among the major attractions at Pulse 2014. Participants are able to learn about the growing value of these technologies through exciting general keynotes sessions, panel discussions, business partner summit, solution expo center, demonstrations, etc. Along with exploring these latest developments, everyone present at Pulse is able to explore wonderful networking opportunities, so that they can make bold business moves in 2014. Needless to say there is an incredible amount of learning and sharing going on at the 4-day conference. Let’s take a look at some of the key highlights of Pulse 2014:
The conference started with Exciting Sunday Pre-Conference Events including the much awaited Business Partner & Managed Service Providers (MSPs) Summit with Breakout Sessions and Open Cloud Summit hosted by Jamie Thomas, General Manager, Software Defined Systems & Moe Abdula, VP, Smart Cloud Foundation.
The day 2 showcased general sessions featuring Infrastructure Matters in the Cloud perspectives and insights. The day revolved around the theme and variations of “Cloud as a growth engine for business.” Erich Clementi, SVP Global Technology Services along with IBM executives and clients shared insights about how today IBM Cloud is a growth engine for business. According to Clementi, Cloud is driving changes to existing business models and creating entirely new ones, enabling organizations to deliver increasingly personalized, mobile-enabled, real-time experiences, be they in a retail, health care, or government service context. Likewise, we had more insightful sessions on Cloud including Building Open Clouds for Small to Midsized Businesses by Scott Firth, Director, SDE who explained how IBM enables Cloud Service Providers to build open clouds with open technologies. Martijn van Zoeren, CEO of Dutch Cloud and Patrick Fitzgerald, Managing Director of i-Layer also joined the session to explain how they have built open clouds to service their small and medium clients.
The day 3 involved General Session around IBM Cloud’s core theme: Think it. Build it. Tap Into it. The session was presented by Tom Rosamilia, Senior Vice President, Systems & Technology Group featuring Steve Mills, SVP & Group Executive, IBM Software and Systems and IBM Systems customer, Infiniti Red Bull Racing. During the session, Matt Cadieux, CIO-Infiniti Red Bull Racing explained how they have relied on IBM hybrid cloud capabilities and technologies to enable them to deliver incredible results in the Formula-1 racing world. According to Matt, “We don’t sell our product, we race it.” “It’s not just the car that needs to be fast, our processes need to be just as fast as well.” said Cadieux in the session. IBM provides the building blocks for the team’s private cloud. Among its components are a purpose-built data center, shared compute and storage resources, a high-performance GPFS file system and IBM Tivoli HSM. Read the full blog.
